Hey there, I'm Kristen Kieffer. A life-long reader and storyteller, I love living life as an author of fantasy fiction and creative writing resources. Here at Well-Storied, I've made it my mission to help writers craft sensational novels and build their best writing lives.
Current resources include an expansive archive of articles on the craft and creative process; writing workbooks such as The Pre-Write Project, Crafting Incredible Characters, and World-Building Warrior; tutorials on harnessing the power of Scrivener (my favorite writing software); free email courses on the craft; The Well-Storied Podcast, and more.
Encouraging community among writers has also been a passion of mine since launching Well-Storied (formerly She's Novel) in January 2014. I currently run active + engaged communities on Facebook and Twitter:
When not writing for Well-Storied, I can be found working on my upcoming fantasy series, bringing home gigantic library book hauls, listening to true crime podcasts, thrifting, and playing with my rescue dog, Aggie.
My work at Well-Storied has been featured by The Write Life (2016–2019), Scribendi (2019), Reedsy (2019), Writer’s Digest, and beyond. I’ve also created a popular free e-course in partnership with Reedsy Learning and written articles on writing for Jane Friedman, Tomi Adeyemi, WriteOnCon, Mariella Hunt, Kaitlin Hillerich, and Macmillan’s (now retired) publishing resource Pronoun.
Over the years, I’ve been interviewed by Ines Lozano, Amanda Zieba, Kristen Flowers at About The Author, Victoria L. Fry at Something Delicious, Literative.com, WritersEdit.com, Jenny Bravo, Linda Sienkiewicz, and more.
#1: My author-entrepreneur journey began with She's Novel.
In January 2014, I began blogging at She's Novel as a way to share what I was learning about the craft of writing with other beginners. Two years later, I rebranded the site and Well-Storied was born.
#2: I write medieval fantasy.
#3: My favorite authors include…
V.E. Schwab, Ursula Le Guin, N.K. Jemisin, Diana Gabaldon, Leigh Bardugo, George R.R. Martin, and Kristin Cashore.
#4: Outside of Reading & writing, I love…
History, astronomy, psychology and true crime, mythology, minimalism, nomadic travel, sustainability, and a damn good cup of black coffee.
#5: I'm an Oxford comma loyalist.
No ambiguity for me. I'm all in for this lil piece o' punctuation.
